This was bothering me. Since we have the boot screens now and it seems like more and more boots are showing up. How many people are actually using them? And how many really need them. What I mean by that, how many actually reboot their computer? I tend to leave mine on for days sometimes weeks. It depends on my usage and how it seems to be acting or if I update certain things that require a reboot. It's a simple question that was on my mind. And seeing if it was worth while to even complete the boot screen I started if that many people don't even use them.

In typical Kona fashion, I am going to contradict myself.

I started using bootskins yesterday, and no problems. I love em.

Waste of winc space and the bane of the messageboard...

Are you talking about me?

I always shut down my computer for two reasons. One reason is the unnecessary power consumption. With the fear of a power shortage, blackouts and such, I feel it neccessary to conserve our resources.

Secondly, I once lost a motherboard during a power blackout when suddenly the power came back on and surged my system. Now, whenever the power blackouts, I always turn off my computer until the power re-stabilizes, despite my numerous surge protectors. And, I always turn off my computer to protect it from such events during the night when I am done using it.

As for Bootscreens, I tried BootXP, and I hated the 16 colors. So, I'll wait for the 24bit version, if it is even possible to make such a program. I understand it is not. Otherwise, I think that BootXP would have done it.

A boot screen lasts about a second, why do anything but ID the OS? Changing boot screens is a form of idolatry, Microsoft is the one god.
Thou shalt not worship any graven image.

'craven'....Spell checker
on Nov 21, 2003
Jafo, I hate to break the news to you but "Graven" is a word used in a relatively unknown article known as the Ten Commandments.

The Second Commandment

"Thou shalt have no other gods before
me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any
graven image or any likeness of any thing
that is in heaven above, or that is in the
earth beneath, or that is in the water
under the earth:

So true....means 'idol'....where 'craven' means cowardly....

Now...where's that thread-delete button?...

I switch between Windows and Linux at least once a day, and when I'm at work I switch my home PC off, so I use and see the boot screens a lot. I'm looking forward to being able to use more than 16 colours

I use them, get to see it for all of 3 seconds, once when arriving to work and again when I get home with me laptop. That dragon is much nicer to look at even though it's only for a short time. Just the option of having it is kind of cool in my opinion.

I want to clarify this.. Can there be anything higher then 16 colors? Because doesn't the video drivers load until after that screen? Which means it's in a safe type mode on boot up. ??????????

I didn't see the point of Bootskins til I tried the program. Sure I hardly re-boot, but when I do its nice to be able to see something different if I choose.
It was asked why some don't reboot often when updating WB, but its usually only minor changes, not something that will change the skin I'm currently using. I mainly reboot if I do a Windows Update or a program like DX2 with MCP that works during the bootup process. Usually though rebooting isn't a must do right now type of thing.
Though I certainly hope they can increase the colors, since most of the bootskins look like they are from the early days of computing hehe.
